Baroque Chiarascuro

The Hay Day all time representational zenith in my opinion was the baroque. I love other genres that incorporate non religious themes or mix in ornamentation or surrealism, but in terms of straight up painting you gotta see my man caravaggio. He was born the same day of the year as me incidently and was known for his mischievous gambling, brawling, drinking, partying and womanizing, but even still he was the catholic church's go-to-man for religious imagery. The extreme lighting the soft fabrics, the frozen action shot and photorealistism, the facial emotion, the detail so accurate you can smell them, the characters are warm and alive and dramatic and human. I like the idea of having actors recreate these scenes for photos, i'd like to do up more work which pays homage to the masters with contemporary twists.

That top painting isn't Caravaggio, it's Artemisia Gentileschi, daughter of Orazio Gentileschi, one of Caravaggio's teachers and the person the painting is most often attributed to.

Ah, that hot-head Judith... Don't piss her off.

Hi
You are absolutely right - i should have been clearer about that, only the bottom one is caravaggio. Similar styles, but i'd say in this case the student has exceeded the skills of his teacher.
