Mucha my love

There was this marvelous time period around a hundred years ago, the camera had just been invented and art was in this transition period, prior the realistic depiction was paramount, it was arts primary function, but when a machine was created for that purpose artists started to focus more on style, in the following decades realistic representation disappeared entirely but during art nouveau there was this beautiful mix of representation and stylization, the painters were free to experiment but still wanted to show real and beautiful things. It was like the art world got to let its hair down and have some fun. Mucha's work resonates with me, its representational but goes a step beyond. Scrolling organic ornament frame his angelic saucy women on pedestals with exagerated hair and ornate drapery, intricate jewelry designs, and hips. mmmm
